KATHMANDU, Nov 2: Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoTCA) has requested the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) to make clear the former´s order to stop all programs related to Nepal Tourism Year (NTY) 2011.

CIAA a month ago had instructed Nepal Tourism Board to hold all NTY-related programs until the commission completes its investigation. According to MoTCA officials, the instruction came on the basis of an anonymous complaint.[break]

Senior official at MoTCA said, “The instruction is vague and it doesn´t specifically mention weather it is trying to refer to international promotional programs or the entire program.” The official further said that if the instruction is to be followed then even the closing ceremony of NTY has to be postponed.

The instruction of CIAA is contradictory to its own instruction to NTY implementation committee on August regarding international promotional program, the official said.

The commission had earlier asked the NTY international promotion committee to continue with the program as per the Public Procurement Act. “The procedure has to be to stopped to comply with this new instruction,” the official said.

Although tourism entrepreneurs were complaining about the delay in organizing promotional programs before the beginning of NTY, there is now slim chance of holding the programs during NTY.

Only two months remain for the conclusion of NTY and the international promotional activities including advertisements in foreign televisions including BBC and CNN have not been aired so far.

The NTY international promotion committee had planned to spend Rs 60 million in India and Rs 30 million in China Nepal targeted to welcome 2 million tourists from India and 1 million tourists from China during NTY.
