KATHMANDU, April 14: Defending champion Mega Three Star Club will take on recently promoted Sankata Club in the opening match of the British Gorkha Cup at the Dasharath Stadium on Saturday.

As the British Gorkha Cup marks the beginning of the new domestic football season, both Three Star and Sankata are getting new shape by registering new players in the team. [break]

Three Star registered 16 players at ANFA on Friday. Three Star succeeded in bringing back its former striker Santosh Sahukhala in the team. Sahukhala had left Three Star and played for Laxmi Hyundai Manang Marshyangdi Club last year.

Three Star signed with Raghu Prajapati, who left NRT. Arun Shrestha and Raju Ale Magar, who have never played for the top tier clubs before, are also included in the team by Three Star, which retained 12 players from its old squad. However, Three Star defender Bikash Singh Chhetri is yet not registered from any club.

Likewise, Sankata retained eight players from its team that helped them to get promotion from B division. Sankata has registered 10 new players in the team. Sankata registered Dipesh Yadav from Birgunj Youth Academy, Manish Gurung, Kappu Rai as its new members.

"We don´t have famous players within the squad but we have capable players in our squad. We´ll give tough fight to Three Star during the opening match," said Sankata coach Juju Kaji Dangol.

Dangol took over the charge of Sankata as All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) slapped one-month ban to its regular coach Shyam Mali on Friday for boycotting award ceremony of recently concluded Red Bull B Division National League.

"We suffered relegation and enjoyed promotion within the last two years. The club with historical background wants to leave its mark in the top tier tournament after the comeback and we´ll give everything in the opening match," said Dangol. "They are the defending champion and they might be under pressure. We have nothing to lose from the match. Our young blood will try to pull off a win," said Dangol.

Mega Three Star coach Megharaj KC denied that his team is under pressure.

"I can´t predict the result but I can definitely assure that Three Star will put up a better performance ," said KC. "We have some experienced players and we have two new but talented players in the team. Three Star fans will witness an improved performance of the team and the team will give them reasons to cheer many times during the game," he added.

Mega Three Star had won both the previous editions of the British Gorkha Cup.

Meanwhile, ANFA CEO Indraman Tuladhar said that all the preparation works for the tournament are over. "We are all set to organize the tournament," said Tuladhar.
