Presented in a conversational style between Kanchan Burathoki, arts editor at Republica English daily and Sujan Chitrakar, coordinator of the Kathmandu University Center for Arts and Design, the program focused on Chitrakar’s recent art exhibition, “Let’s Talk About ART Baby!”.[break]
Chitrakar, exhibited his works after a gap of six years and has been raising eyebrows with his unique style of presentation. While Burathoki, who completed her Bachelors in Arts from Mount Holyoke College, Massachusetts in May, 2009 majored in Arts Studio. She has been writing about the Nepali art scenario since August, 2009 as an arts editor for Republica English daily.
The event was initiated with a poem recitation by poet Nayan Sindhuliya; “Saundarya Kranti”. Questioning Chitrakar about his art exhibition and his interpretation of art Burathoki set the evening for some insightful discussion on the art scenario in Nepal.
He answered both queries related to his professional career and individual beliefs. “The Nepali art scenario is rampant with intellectual crisis,” he asserted. “Through my exhibition I’m trying to bring art into the public domain. All I seek is more art appreciation.”
From the price of his paintings to the use of Photoshop in his art installations everything was brought into discussion. The event ended with questions from the audience.
