A group of Maoist leaders, including general secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa, had reached Rupandehi to inspect the disputed dam as part of their fourth phase of protests.
Local authorities in India had mobilized hundreds of SSB personnel in the dam area and the no-man´s land between Nepal and India.
The Maoist team inspected only the Nepali side of the dam.
