Nepal beats Malawi
KATHMANDU: Nepal defeated Malawi 3.5-0.5 on Thursday with youth player Rupesh Jaiswal confirmed Candidate Master (CM) title in the the ninth round of the 40th Olympiad of Chess. Jaiswal defeated his opponent in 26th move and accumulated 4.5 individual points. Similarly, FIDE Master (FM) Manish Hamal edged past Chipanga Chiletso in the 53rd move and Prachanda Malakar overcame Nyamlo Joshep Xavier in the 73rd move. Meanwhile, CM Keshav Shrestha shared points with Mawale Joshoha. Nepal will take on Lithuania on Friday.
NK memorial football from Monday
KATHMANDU: STAR Club of Budhanilkantha School is organizing the Fourth NK Memorial Inter-college Football Tournament from September 10 to 22 to commemorate late Narayan Khadka, the founding chairperson of Nepal Wodo-Rye Karate. The organizers said during a press meet on Friday that altogether 12 teams will participate in the tournament which will be held in the premises of Budhaniklantha School. The top three teams will receive Rs 20,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 as prize money.
Gyan Bhairav, Khumaltar triumph
KATHMANDU: Gyan Bhairav Youth Club and Khumaltar Youth Club won their respective matches on Friday in the Red Bull C Division Football League at the Chyasal ground, Kathmandu. Gyan Bhairav overcame Sri Boys Sports Club 3-2 with two goals coming from Saugat Khanal after Arjun Chhetri opened the scoring. Ichi Maharjan and Yam Maharjan scored one each for the Sri Boys Sports. In another match, Binoj Maharjan scored the lone goal in Khumaltar’s 1-0 win over Sri Bhagwati Club. Earlier, in the day’s first match, Jhamsikhel Youth Club and Khalibari Football Club shared points playing goalless draw.
