Pariyar beat Dinesh Shahi of Bajura in the 15-18 age group category of the boys´ 42-44 kg pre-quarterfinals. In the same category, Pun defeated Aman Tamang of Meghdoot ´B´, Lama saw off Santosh Rajbhahak of Bosigaun ´C´ and Maharjan beat Chiranjivi Rana of Nawalparasi ´B´ to secure their place in the quarterfinals.[break]
In the 44-46 kg weight category, Sandeep Tamang of Jhapa ´B´, Rajesh Hemran of Jhapa ´A´, Kiran BK of Nawalparasi ´A´ and Suman Wati of Bhaktapur made it to the quarterfinals.
Likewise, Bikson Maharjan of Bosigaun ´A´, Santosh Rai of Sunsari, Amrit BK of Nawalparasi ´A´ and Amit Kuikel of Sirutar ´B´ also made it to the quarterfinals in the 46-48 kg category.
Other boxers to secure a place in the quarterfinals were Lachhuman Lohala, Nirmal Izam, Deepak Magar, Himal Gurung in 50-52 kg category while Kalan Rawal, Arjun Nepali, Pradip Rai and Bishnu BUdha won their respective matches in the 52-54 kg category.
Valley Public, Army School victorious
KATHMANDU: Host Valley Public, Army School and HIMS won their respective matches of the Seventh Valley Public Inter School Basketball Tournament on Thursday in the boy´s category. The host beat Children Devotee 36-18 riding on 19 points from Sohan Tamang. Army School saw off Rupy´s International 33-21 and Dawa Jangbo scored 27 points to lead HIMS to a comprehensive 51-25 win over Himalayan School.
Meanwhile, Gyan Niketan, Oasis, Mount Kailash, Galaxy and Greenland also won their respective matches. In the girls´ section, Bagmati, Siddhartha Vanasthali and Galaxy achieved victories.
Gurung confirms medal in Asian Wushu
KATHMANDU: Nepal is assured of at least a bronze medal in the Eighth Asian Wushu Championship being held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam after a Nepali player received a favorable draw. Jharana Gurung got a bye and a direct entry in the semifinals to secure the bronze, according to wushu coach Panchaman Maharjan. Gurung will face a Chinese player in the semifinal on Friday.
Corporate futsal semis line-up complete
KATHMANDU: Nepal Investment Bank Limited (NIBL) and Ncell advanced into the semifinals of the Magic Moments Corporate Futsal Tournament on Thursday. NIBL defeated The Last Resort 5-4 in tie-breaker after the regulation time ended in a 3-3 draw. Defending champion Ncell thrashed GBL 9-2 as Prajwal Prajapati scored five goals for the winning side. Likewise, Butwal Power Company secured a semifinal berth after defeating Janata Bank 2-0 in tie-breaker. The regulation had time ended in a 3-3 draw. Meanwhile, Bipasana International thrashed Nepal Airlines 7-2 to reach the last four. Nabin Shakya scored seven goals for the winning team.
