SPORTS BRIEFS: Nepal achieves second win

KATHMANDU, Sept 4: Nepal achieved second victory during the 40th Olympiad of Chess being held in Istanbul, Turkey. Nepal beat Macau 2.5 - 1.5 during the sixth round played on Monday. Earlier, Nepal had defeated Rwanda during the fourth round. With the completion of the fourth round, Nepal has garnered four points. Nepal is in the 119th position among 150 countries.



In the sixth round, Candidate Master (CM) Keshav Shrestha and Prachanda Malakar won their matches. Similarly FIDE Master Manish Hamal was defeated while Rupesh Jaiswal played draw against Soluman Ais. Shrestha beat Li Hui in the 82nd move and Malakar overcame CM Joseph-Mary Muteesaasira in the 27th move. [break]Jaiswal shared point with CM Solomon Iii Bernardino Celis and Hamal was defeated by Hexilon Punongbayan. Nepal is facing Estonia in the seventh round.



Basketball tourney begins Wednesday



KATHMANDU
: Bajra International College is organizing the First Inter-school and College (+2) Basketball Tournament for Wednesday at its court in Baudha, Jorpati. According to Devi Prasad Adhikari, the principal of the college, the nine-day long tournament will feature girl´s competition at the school level and boy´s competition at the college level. Five participating teams in girl´s category will compete in round robin basis.



Similarly, 15 teams of boy´s category are divided into four groups. According to Vice-principal Ratnaman Tamang, the expected cost of the event is Rs 150,000.
