SPORTS BRIEFS: Innovative, Kathmandu Valley in NEA Cup final

KATHMANDU: Innovative and Kathmandu Valley will vie for the title of Second NEA Cup Inter-school Basketball Tournament on Tuesday. Innovative defeated TIA 38-29 with 19 points from Anup Rawat in the semifinals held on Monday. Likewise, Aang Tshering Sherpa´s 16 points guided Kathmandu Valley to a 32-21 victory over Forward Academy. In the girls´ category, TIA and Angel´s Heart advanced into the final. TIA registered a hard-fought 17-15 win over Bagmati with nine points from Sweta Kharel, while Puja Rai´s seven points guided Angel´s Heart to a 21-19 victory over HHCA.


Veterans table tennis from May 19



KATHMANDU: Nepal Amateur Veterans Athlete Committee is organizing the Third Anup Memorial Veterans Table Tennis Tournament from May 19 at the Lainchaur Table Tennis Training Hall. The tournament will be divided into four categories -- above 45 years, above 50 years, above 55 years and above 60 years -- in the men´s section. The female section will have competitions in above 45 years and above 50 years categories.


Lama congratulates NTU committee



KATHMANDU: Member Secretary of National Sports Council Yuvaraj Lama on Monday congratulated the newly-elected working committee of National Taekwondo Union (NTU). The first general assembly of NTU had elected Shailendra Amatya as president on Sunday. Shiva Koirala and Sanjay Aryal are the vice-presidents while Raj Kumar Karki has been elected as the general secretary.
