KATHMANDU: The junior boys´ team of Gauri Shankhar defeated the hosts Greenland ´A´ 17-6 in the Fifth Kwiks Greenalnd Inter-school Basketball Tournament on Tuesday. Likewise, Golden Peak, Mount Glory, HHCA and Awareness International Academy won their respective matches. In the senior boys´ category, Mount Glory, HHCR and Fluorescent registered victories at the court of Greenland School, Dhapasi.
AIG Gautam nominated NSA Vice-prez
KATHMANDU: Nepal Swimming Association (NSA) nominated Additional Inspector General of Police Kiran Gautam to the post of vice-president of the association on Tuesday. A meeting held under the chair of NSA President Samim Miyan Ansari on Tuesday took the decision to this effect. The meeting has also decided to organize International Junior Swimming Championship in Nepal in the near future. Ansari also informed that the NSA will make efforts to get the swimmers into the Nepal Police Club.

KATHMANDU: The boys´ team of the hosts Don Bosco ´A´ defeated United Academy 56-41 in the 12th Don Bosco Cup Inter-college Basketball Tournament at their home court in New Baneshwar on Tuesday. Likewise, National Campus and Morgan International also won their respective matches. In the senior girls´ category, NASA defeated Xavier International 26-14 riding on 13 points from Ronahi Limbu.
New Diamond set up title clash with Angel´s Heart
KATHMANDU: Defending champions New Diamond Academy set up title clash with Angel´s Heart in the Sixth SEB Inter-school Volleyball Tournament winning their respective matches in the girls´ category on Tuesday. New Diamond defeated Bijehwari 25-12, 25-16, 17-25, 25-12 while Angel´s Heart saw off Annal Jyoti 25-11, 25-10, 25-10. In the boys´ category, defending champions Newton, Deep Jyoti and Angel´s Heart secured the quarterfinal berths winning their respective matches.
WMMC beat Bihar XI
JANAKPUR: Workers Martyrs Memorial Club (WMMC) Kathmandu advanced into the semifinals of the Janaki Gold Cup National Women´s Football Tournament defeating Bihar XI of India 2-0 on Tuesday. Tara Lama scored both the goals for WMMC in the match held at the premises of Janakpur Cigarette Factory. Lama, who was later adjudged the woman of the match, scored in the 60th minute, and added another 12 minutes later to seal the win. Wednesday´s semifinal will be played between Morang and Rautahat.
Magar wins chess title
HETAUDA: Prem Ale Magar of Hetauda Academy clinched the title of the Inter-school Chess Tournament held at Reliance School, Sanu Pokhara on Tuesday. Magar played a draw with Harisharan Chaulagain of Shiksha Bikash School in the final round to top the table with 10 points. Chaulagain finished second with nine points. Rashmit Pokharel of GS Niketan finished third beating Aweth Thing of Solidarity Academy in a tiebreaker. Both of them had scored 8.5 points. Altogether 13 students from 13 schools had participated in the tournament organized to mark the 21st anniversary of PABSON in Makawanpur district.
Swayambhu stun NRT
KATHMANDU: Swayambhu Club stunned New Road Team (NRT) in the Second Simara Gold Cup on Tuesday. The newly promoted ´A´ Division side Swayambhu defeated NRT in sudden death after the regulation time of the match ended in a goalless draw. Both the teams rattled the bars of their opponents in the 80-minute game but couldn´t break the deadlock. The match headed toward a tiebreaker during which both teams scored four goals and missed one each in the penalty shootouts. The teams again missed a shot each in the sudden death. Swayambhu´s Bibek Limbu scored the decider after NRT´s Jitendra Karki shot at the post in the team´s second attempt. Swayambhu´s custodian Ashok Baral, who foiled NRT´s half-a-dozen attempts, was adjudged the man-of-the-match.
