SPORTS BRIEFS: Golden Jubilee Cup golf on Dec 8

DHARAN, Dec 3: Nirvana Country Club Health and Golf Resort is all set to organize the Golden Jubilee Cup, an amateur golf tournament, to commemorate 50 years of golf in Dharan. At a press meet held in Dharan on Monday, Nirvana informed that the event will tee off at the club on December 8. Nirvana Country Club, previously known as Dharan Country Club, was established in 1962 by the British Gurkha Army Regiment at Ghopa Camp, Dharan.



"The Golden Jubilee Cup will provide exposure to all golfers in the eastern region," said Shashi Ram Bhandari, chairman of Nirvana Country Club. "We have expected around 50 amateur golfers from Dharan, Kathmandu and Pokhara to participate in the tournament," added Bhandari. Earlier, the club had scheduled the tournament for April but it was postponed due to technical reasons.[break]



Police maintains winning run



KATHMANDU
: Holder Nepal Police Club maintained its grip at the top of points table on Monday following its sixth win in row in the 8th Dhorpatan Women´s Double League Volleyball Tournament being held at New Bus Park, Gongabu.



In course of maintaining its wining streak, the departmental giant thumped Dhulabari Higher Secondary School, Jhapa 25-3, 25-6, 25-6. Police has 18 points after six matches.



Other departmental team, Armed Police Force (APF) also maintained its cent percent winning streak. APF registered a comfortable win over Angel´s Heart 25-16, 25-9, 25-21. APF in the second position have 14 points from five matches.



In other matches, Dhulabari edged past Dhading District Volleyball Association 28-26, 25-16, 25-6, New Diamond Club overcame Chandeshwari Youth Club, Ramechhap 25-14, 25-10, 25-5. New Diamond has collected seven points from four matches and Chandeshwari nine points from six matches.



Nepali cadet judo team off to Dhaka



KATHMANDU
: A 34-member Nepali team including 21 players left for Dhaka, Bangladesh on Monday to compete in the Judo For Peace Second South Asian Cadet Judo Championship to be held there from December 5-8. The judokas -- both boys and girls -- will compete in different weight categories of 10-13 years age group and 13-16 years age group. All the players that left for Dhaka were the gold medal winners of the selection tournament held on November 21 and 22 in the capital. The other members of the team include coaches, managers, judges, officials and the parents of players. In the first edition held in Kathmandu, Nepal had finished second with seven gold medals. National Sports Council Member Secretary Yubaraj Lama bade farewell to the team and wished the team success.



Dhital siblings donate cash reward



KATHMANDU
: Swimmer siblings Shreya and Aditi Dhital have declared to donate the amount they received for winning gold in the 6th National Games for social service. The duos have received total amount of Rs 60,000 from National Sports Council (NSC) for their achievement in the games. According to Nepal Swimming Association, the duos will donate the amount for filtering the arsenic mixed water in Nawalparasi district.



Silver medalist honored



KATHMANDU
: Nepal Soft Tennis Association on Monday honored the consolation silver medal winner of women team event during the 7th Asian Soft Tennis Championship held in Chiyai, Chinese Taipei from November 14 to 21. Nepali women team comprising of Niru Kayastha, Rekha Tuladhar, Chandra Maya Rai, Eliza Ranjit and Ritu Gurung had achieved the feat. Kayastha was the coach of the team. Nepal had defeated Macau 2-1 in the semifinal.



APF, Little Angel´s in semifinal



KATHMANDU
: Nepal APF School and Little Angel´s secured semifinal spot in the 17th Fr Moran Memorial Invitational Inter-school Football Tournament on Monday. APF edged past Pushpanjali 3-1 in tiebreaker and LA beat Dolphin in sudden death. The event organized by St Xavier´s School, Godavari is held at its ground in Godavari.



Host Prime, Times advance



KATHMANDU
: Host Prime and Times secured pre-quarterfinal spots under boy´s category in the 10th Prime Cup Inter-college Basketball Tournament being held in the capital. With 10 points from Niraj Shikrakhar, Prime edged past Bernhardt 42-27 and Times eased past Cambridge 33-12. In other matches of boy´s category, GoldenGate blanked Ace 69-17, Xavier Int´l thrashed Whitefield 52-26, and Bagmati saw off Angle´s Heart 42-39 for a place in the pre-quarterfinals. In the girls round robin league NASA overcame Gurukul 22-12.
