"The pull out decision is unchanged and Army athletes will not participate in the Sixth National Games. We cannot participate in the game in view of the First South Asian Army Sports Meet that is slated for March," he said.
Urlabari cruises into final
ITAHARI: Urlabari Football Club cruised into the final of the Sixth Dan Bahadur Fuyal Memorial Gold Cup Football Tournament under way in Itahari, Sunsari, with 1-0 victory over Mitramilan Club of Dharan on Monday. Anil Dhimal opened the scoring for Urlabari in the early fourth minute which turned to be the match decider. Bishal Tamang of Urlabari was declared the man-of-the-match and awarded with a purse of Rs 1000.
Urlabari will take on the winner of the second semifinal to be played between Dhankuta Football Club and APF, Damak, to be held on Tuesday. The winner and the runner up will receive cash prize of Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively. Eight teams have participated in the event organized by Jagriti Club of Itahari.
Neric, AIA to vie for title
KATHMANDU: Neric Academy on Monday advanced into the final of the 10th Gyan Niketan Inter-school Basketball Tournament in the junior boys´ category. In the semifinal match played at Gyan Niketan, Neric beat Odyssey 32-22 with 15 points from Manoj Khatri. Neric will face Awareness International Academy in the final. Meanwhile, Golden Peak and TIA finished third in the senior boys´ and girls´ categories respectively.
Angel´s Heart into final
KATHMANDU: Host Angel´s Heart A entered the final of the Third Angel´s Heart Sports Festival in the girls´ volleyball category on Monday. The host beat Annal Jyoti in three straight sets in the semifinal. In senior boys´ volleyball, Apollo registered wins over South Western College and Angel´s Heart A. In junior basketball, Mount Glory overcame Angel´s Heart 21-11.
Manaslu wins volleyball tourney
KATHMANDU: Host Manaslu National College A clinched the title of the Second Manaslu Inter-college Open Boys´ Volleyball Tournament on Monday. The host defeated Classic College 25-23, 26-24, 25-16 in the final. The winning team bagged a purse of Rs 10,000 while runner-up Classic received Rs 7,000. In the third place play-off, Newton beat Precious College in three straight sets and received Rs 3,000.
Dharan FC introduces player of the year award
DHARAN: Dharan Football Club, the organizer of Budhasubba Gold Cup Football Tournament, has said that it will confer player of the year award to one footballer from Dharan each year starting from this year. According to the club, a footballer shall be chosen for the award based on his contribution to the development of football. The player of the year shall be awarded Yamaha motorbike worth Rs 170,000 and a letter of appreciation, Kishor Rai, the president of the club said.
According to Rai, the award will be given each year on the occasion of Budhasubba Gold Cup Tournament. "The aim of instituting this award is to encourage talented footballers and make football more professional," Rai said. Budhasubba is scheduled to be held from April 19-27.
Drills for National Games inaugural ceremony begins
DHANGADI: The drills for the inaugural ceremony of the Sixth National Games to be held from February 26 to March 4 in Far Western Region have begun. School students and police are undergoing physical training and practicing march past to be shown during the inaugural ceremony. Though only one week remains for the games to begin, the construction of physical infrastructure is yet to get a final shape as the construction work of athletics track and courts for different games are still going on.
The rehearsal was conducted on the under-construction track halting the construction work for some time. Though the drills were supposed to begin 15 days before the games kicked off, it started only from Sunday following the delay in the construction of the play ground.
