SPORTS BRIEFS: 1st phase swimming selection

KATHMANDU, Aug 6: Nepal Swimming Association on Friday selected three men and women players each in preliminary selection for the 16th Asian Games to be held in Guangzhou, China.



Sialesh Rana (100 m freestyle), Prakash Adhikari (100 m backstroke) and Babinsensa Shrestha (100m breaststroke) were selected in men´s section. Likewise, Saila Rana (100 m freestyle), Shreya Dhital (100 m backstroke), and Osin Bharati Shrestha (100m breaststroke) were selected in women´s category in the first round. [break]



One male and female player each will participate in the Asian Games.





ITF clean up NSC premises



KATHMANDU, Aug 6: Officials, players and coaches of Nepal International Taekwondo Federation (ITF) on Friday cleaned up the National Sports Council premises. The cleaning was carried out as per their previously announced program on the occasion of the 13th anniversary of ITF.



According to ITF President Krishna Bahadur Balal, about 210 people associated with the organization participated in the clean up program. The ITF is scheduled to honor the best men and women players, association and coach on Sunday.





Futuro III referee seminar concludes



KATHMANDU, Aug 6: Referee courses organized by All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) as per the program of FIFA, concluded on Friday in the capital.



Three separate courses - Refereeing Instructor Course (RIC), Head of Referee Course (HRC) and Referee Fitness Course (RFC) - were held under the title FUTURO III from August 1 to 6 this week for the first time in Nepal.



Altogether 36 referees from SAF countries and Iran participated in the event. There were 21 participants in RIC, seven in HRC and eight in RFC respectively. Instructors Masoud Enayat of Iran, Viktor Kolpacorv of Kyrgyzstan, Khalid Supin of Malaysia, Hassan Al Hazmi of Qatar and Nelly Berry of England conducted the courses.



Chief guest of the closing ceremony Sushil SJB Rana, secretary of the Youth and Sports Ministry gave away certificates to the participants. ANFA President Ganesh Thapa underlined the challenges faced by referees.



Five Nepali referees who participated in the course are Surendra Shikhrakar, Dilip Kumar Rajak, Madhusudan Khanal, Pema Dolma and Shyam Lama.
