KATHMANDU, Aug 21: The government has formally brought into action its special security plan. A meeting held here on Friday oriented security chiefs and senior administrators of the mid region to execute the plan. [break]

The plan asserted as the government´s significant tool to maintain law and order and help push forward the peace process focuses on smooth operation of traffic on highways and on controlling heinous crimes and tackling criminal activities of underground armed groups in the Tarai.

At the meeting, Home Minister Bhim Rawal said the plan would have three months for preliminary implementation. He said no one should oppose the plan for the broader interests of the nation.

Referring to criticism from the Tarai-based parties over the plan, Rawal said the government forged the plan after consulting all political parties, human right activists and diplomatic circle and would implement the plan without hesitancy, unaffected by any pressure.

He urged the enforcement agencies to go ahead with the plan with high morale and divert any obstacle or pressure on him. "I will resist all pressure from the political front," he said.

Minister Rawal also said those who raise doubts over the plan would only be supporting deterioration of law and order in the country.

Minister of State for Home Affairs Mohamed Rijwan Ansari described criminals, sectarians and vigilantes as enemies to law and order and thus should be punished. Ansari clarified that the plan was not brought forth to suppress people as accused by some Tarai-based political parties. "I urge all people from the Madhes that they should not run after rumors and illusions regarding the government´s move to ensure safety in the society," he said.

The government will be organizing similar orientation meetings in all regions by the first week of September. Secretary at the Home Ministry Govinda Kusum said the meetings intend to promote high morale in law and order guards to go ahead with the plan.
