Solar eclipse observed

KATHMANDU, Jan 15: The longest solar eclipse of this century was observed in Nepal.



The eclipse that began from Mahendranagar in the west at 12:24 Friday noon ended after reaching in Ilam at 3:42 Friday noon. The eclipse covered the sun by 59 percent from Kathmandu and 64 percent from Ilam.[break]



The rare solar eclipse of 3hours 17minutes´ duration was visible after 3033 years.



Religious people have started to gather in rivers, lakes, ponds and other sources of water in the country to take a holy bath after the eclipse began.

With the view to observing the eclipse, Balmiki Bidhyapith, Kathmandu, has managed two telescopes at its premises including special type of eyeglasses. Similarly, the eclipse could be viewed from National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST).



People who have reached Devghat, Trivenidham and other places for taking a holy bath on the occasion of Maghe Sakranti have been praying after taking a bath again in the same religious areas.



Likewise, Maghe Sakranti fair has begun in Dhungesanghu of Pokhara. Devotees from different areas of Kaski district have been coming in the fair.
