Social service must for master's graduates

KATHMANDU, Dec 8: The Ministry of Education (MoE) has proposed to the Tribhivan University (TU) to revise the master´s degree curricula to encourage social service in rural areas.



As per the governance reform plan, the Prime Minister´s Office (PMO) in October had brought in a provision and accordingly directed the Ministry of Education to make social service compulsory for master´s level. [break]



As per the provision, master´s graduates will have to complete three months in social service to receive their transcripts and certificates from their respective colleges and universities, said MoE spokesperson Mahashram Sharma.



TU VC Hira Bahadur Maharjan said within a year they will make it compulsory for the master´s graduates of science, information technology, humanities, education and management to complete three months of social service.



In its another plan to promote the students below the poverty line, the government has announced a scholarship program for one female student from each Village Development Committees from the next fiscal year, Sharma added.



Similarly, the ministry has also come up with the concept to set up an innovation centre that aims to provide platform to emerging scientists in the country.
