MAHENDRANAGAR, Dec 15: Heavy snowfall continues to affect normal life throughout the hilly areas of the far-west region.

Villages in the northern belt of Darchula, Bajhang and Bajura districts have been badly affected by snowfall, which has continued for the last few days. In many villages, sudden dip in temperature caused by snowfall has led to the closure of schools. [break]

“Children have not been able to go to their schools,” said Jiban Budhathoki, a resident of Rapla VDC in Darchula district.

Snowfall has blocked roads in several hilly districts of Bajhang district. Uday Tamang, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Bajhang said vehicular movement has come to a standstill following incessant snowfall since Thursday. “We are trying to clear the blocked roads,” said Tamang.

“But, it is very difficult as snowfall has yet not stopped.”

Bichya, Dahakot, Martadi, Kolti, Rugin and Aatichaur villages in Bajura have also been affected by snowfall. The locals have started moving downward to evade the impacts of snowfall.
