Skills Expo concludes

KATHMANDU, Sept 11: A three-day exhibition aimed at promoting skills among youths and organized jointly by the Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) and managed by Direction Nepal in association with Ace of Spade Management concluded in the capital on Friday. The "Skill Development Expo 2009" featured more than 45 stalls that catered to different sectors like agriculture, forestry, automobile, handicraft, hospitality and electronic sectors, according to the organizers.



"The event was organized especially to provide a platform for unemployed individuals and as per our expectation the targeted people turned up in the event," said Ami Maharjan, Managing Director of Ace of Spade Management. "Ace will contribute to the society through such events in the future as well," she added.







The expo provided platform for the exhibitors to promote themselves and provide skill development counselling to the needful. Yukta Narayan Shrestha, employment co-coordinator at FNCCI-EIG, said, "We could promote our web site www.jobsfirst.org.np better through this program. It is because of this event more than 135 employers have registered their companies in our web site." USAID Nepal´s Education for Income Generation (EIG) in Nepal program and FNCCI have jointly launched the web site for the linkage between training and employment providers and job seekers.



"The expo was able to attract more youth and women," said Abhishek Bhatta, Marketing Manager of Direction Nepal. Sunil Shrestha, a visitor found the event very fruitful. "It is through this expo I could trace suitable training and employment opportunities for myself," Sunil said. The expo featured various institutions that provided training in various sectors such as hospitality, banking and technical areas. Exhibitors such as Real Solutions and Nepal Montessori Training Centre had introduced spot admission schemes at the expo.



Montessori gave out 40 percent discount on spot admission and will be giving 30 percent discount on admission as festival offer even after the expo.



Besides, the expo also featured special sessions by professionals and interaction programs between the exhibitors and visitors.
