Everyone needs a pair of shorts in their wardrobe in the summer and everyday new designs and new trend is entering into the city, Shrestha said, adding, “We are trying our best to meet the demand of the customer.”
Summer shorts are available in different designs to cater to men of all age groups - be they kids playing video games or adults. However, the trend is less in women Nepal as mostly teenagers are fond of such garment. Polyester, linen, cotton, tissue, chiffon, soft jeans and net are some of the popular materials used in shorts.

Even the styles are varied with ruffled waist, stone washed, high waist, camouflage, sequins detail on pockets and polka dots. Shorts are available in different colors like blue, purple, pink, royal blue, beige and black.
Traders say price of summer shorts has increased by about 15 percent compared to last year due to the rise in customs duty. Also the strengthening of US dollar vis-à-vis Nepali rupee has also affected the cost in the local market.
“This year price of clothes has increase as we import in US dollar,” said Apsara Basnet, proprietor of Monte Carlo store at Civil Mall. At present, we have summer shorts priced between Rs 871 and Rs 1,945, she said, adding, we had sold similar product in range of Rs 818 to Rs 1,850 last summer.
Mainly summer shorts sale peak between July and August, as it is hot as well as rainy season, said Maharjhan, sales executive at Denizen showroom, Civil Mall. “People get annoyed when muddy water is splashed in their pants. That is why they prefer shorts and they are easier to clean as well,” she added.
Denizen jeans shorts are available in price range of Rs 1,890 to Rs 2,590.
Basu Ghimire, proprietor of Duke at Blue Bird Complex, also said sales of summer shorts is increasing. “We have wide range of products for our clients; if clients want casual wear we won´t disappoint them," added Ghimire.
Duke shorts are available in range of Rs 790 to Rs 1,590. The store was selling the same product in the range of Rs 750 to Rs 1,400 last summer.
In the local market, shorts are mainly imported from India, Thailand, Italy, Vietnam, Hong Kong and China.
