Mani Lal Rai, who drives an ambulance operated by Rajan Adhikari Foundation, had slapped Sabi Rajbhandari, a BPKIHS nurse, on Monday night, accusing her of negligence in the treatment of one Brahma Rai. Brahma, 60, was admitted to the emergency ward of the BPKIHS hospital on Monday and Rajbhandrai was attending to him.[break]
Rai, who was arrested by police immediately, had consumed alcohol, a medical test conducted later on Monday night confirmed.
Emergency services at the BPKIHS hospital was affected for nearly two hours on Monday night as all nurses walked out of the hospital after the incident demanding security. They rejoined their duties only after Dr Arbinda Kumar Sinha, Hospital Director at the BPKIHS, assured that he would ensure security and take action against the guilty.
However, on Tuesday morning, emergency service was halted again for a couple of hours as all nurses thronged the hospital administration for talks with hospital authorities, leaving doctors alone at the emergency ward.
Citing the lack of nurses, doctors referred some patients to other hospitals. Birkha Bahadur Rana, of Dharan Municipality-8, said that he had to take his 11-month-old grandson to Biratnagar since doctors were not ready to have him admitted Tuesday morning.
Meanwhile, the BPKIHS administration on Tuesday instructed the G-4 Security Company, which has won a contract for hospital security, to tighten security in the days to come. Later, talking to Republica, Hospital Director Dr Sinha even warned of terminating the contract with the G-4 Security if such incidents repeated in future. “We can´t compromise on our security,” he said.
