The senior citizens have been on sit-in putting forth eight different demands, including increase of old-age allowances.
They have voiced their concern over the government's apathy to address their demands. Some 11 senior citizens have so far lost their lives during 25-month of sit-in.
Among other demands of senior citizens are immediate implementation of the the mandamus order issued by the Supreme Court to the government in 2067 BS.
They have demanded to increase the existing monthly allowance of Rs 500 to minimum Rs 3,000.
The senior citizens staging sit-in before the Department of Transport Management in Minbhawan are at the age range of 60-98.
"The government has only arranged 50 per cent travel fare concession to senior citizen in Kathmandu and Bhaktapur and easy access to temples across the country for offering worship without standing much on the line", said Struggle Committee general-secretary Saraswoti Rijal, adding, "The government is not serious to address their other demands".
According to the census, the senior citizens share around 2.6 million out of total population. RSS
