KATHMANDU, April 13: The 2nd Nepali Youth Climate Summit (NYCS) is scheduled to start from April 16 in Sauraha, Chitwan. The summit, consisting of 70 participants, ranging from 16-25 years of age, will have youths from more than 40 districts of Nepal.

The summit is jointly organized by Nepali Youth for Climate Action (NYCA) and Clean Energy Nepal (CEN) and is officially accredited by Ministry of Environment.

With the slogan "to leave behind a greener planet", the organizers expect the participants to learn, share and build a network of like-minded people to work against the adverse effects of climate change.

"Most of the participants are youths from educational institutions, clubs and organizations. NYCS 2010 will bring together youth from different regions and different sectors in one summit to facilitate exchange of innovative and creative ideas and build local projects to mitigate some effects of climate change," says Alina Pokharel, Communications Chief of the summit.

The major highlights of the summit are Green Idea Cup, climate leadership skills camp, climate debate, and advocacy and negotiation skills camp. At the end of the three day summit, Nepali youth declaration on climate change and the Nepalese youth action plan on climate change will be proposed.

The Green Idea Cup will be initiated by breaking down all of the 70 participants into regional groups of 10. Each group will be facilitated by climate experts and the participants will make presentations on their ideas. The best three ideas will be awarded some seed money to initiate projects in their regions.
