The victim claimed Poudel had taken him to science laboratory and beaten him. The school had taken the injured student to Charak Hospital in Pokhara but the hospital referred him to Kathmandu for further treatment of his ear.

“The school has agreed to pay a compensation of Rs 1.7 million. We are now preparing to take him to Kathmandu for treatment,” the boy´s uncle Kumar Thapa said. “His eardrum has been ruptured due to beating by teacher. It is high time for every school to be careful in the future,” Thapa added.

The medical report of Charak Hospital says the eardrum of the boy´s right ear is ruptured and there is a hole. “The hospital has advised him to protect the ear from water and dust, to stay away from noise, and be careful while sneezing and coughing,” the victim´s mother Laxmi said.

The guardians hesitated to talk in details having reached a settlement with the school, which had tried to keep the matter secret having paid a fat sum in compensation. Principal of the school Raju KC was not available for contact while teacher Jeevan Sharma expressed ignorance about the incident. “The boy you are talking about has not come to school after completion of exams,” Sharma claimed.

District Education Officer Dil Nath Puri slammed the incident and said, “We have initiated investigations based on the complaints of the guardians,” Puri said revealing that the District Education Office has directed resource person Shiva KC to investigate the matter. “We will raise awareness against corporal punishment in all schools in the district as this is a serious incident,” Puri added.
