Four young judo players who are living under the support of Prisoners´ Assistance Mission (PAM), an NGO that looks after the kids of prisoners, had recently won medals in the Judo for Peace South Asian Cadet Judo Championship held in Dhaka, Bangladesh last Friday. [break]
According to Surya Narayan Shrestha, president of PAM, the school in Ichangu Narayan VDC in the western suburb of Kathmandu has announced to provide scholarships to the four players till SLC completion. Shrestha, who is also a judo coach, told Republica that the school made the announcement on Tuesday during a function organized to felicitate the players.
Devika Maya Shrestha (U-32 kg), Subodh Mandal (U-26 kg) and Indra Bahadur Shrestha (U-40 kg) had won gold in Dhaka while Manita Pradhan Shrestha (U-52 kg) had secured silver in the tournament. Besides the four players, another judoka Uttam Pradhan has also received scholarship for his outstanding performance in judo.
During the occasion, Nepal Judo Association (NJA) President Deepak Harsha Bajracharya said that NJA expecting a lot in the future from Devika Maya Shrestha, who knocked her opponent in just 10 seconds in the final.
Bajracharya also expressed his gratitude toward PAM and the school for producing extraordinary judo players.
