KATHMANDU, June 8: The Supreme Court Friday issued a show cause notice to the government and the secretariat of the Legislature Parliament as to why the dissolved Constituent Assembly should not be reinstated for a day for promulgating a new constitution, and why the November 22 election should not be nullified.

Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi issued the show cause notice after an initial hearing on a public interest litigation filed by three lawyers. [break]

CJ Regmi has directed the court administration to give priority to the hearing on the petition. Regmi further said a special bench would preside over the hearing after the government and the parliament secretariat furnish their written replies.

The lawyers moved the court on Thursday with their petition demanding that the court direct the government and the secretariat to reinstate the dissolved Constituent Assembly for a day to promulgate a new constitution and nullify the decision to hold fresh elections for Constituent Assembly on November 22.
