The forum has made Kathmandu District Administration Office as the main defendant while other defendants are Prime Minister and Chancellor of Tribhuvan University (TU), the Office of the Council of Ministers, Home Ministry, Health Ministry, Education Ministry and nine doctors including dean of the Institute of Medicine (IOM), assistant dean, TUTH director and other agitating doctors. “We have made Kathmandu District Administration the main defendant as it did not act upon our complaint lodged on Thursday,” secretary of the forum Jyoti Baniya said after filing the case on Sunday.
Meanwhile, irate locals padlocked the gates of TUTH on Sunday demanding resumption of services. They padlocked the main gate and other gates of the hostel and campus in the afternoon, which they themselves opened in the evening, and sloganeered on the hospital premises.
They also held a meeting with the agitating students and doctors to persuade them to resume services but to no avail. They have threatened to take stringent measures if the services were not resumed by Monday.
Meanwhile, Nepal Medical Association (NMA) has slammed the government for taking an irresponsible decision on the issue. “NMA had repeatedly written to the vice chancellor and government ministers to form a high-level probe committee including all parties,” NMA said in a press statement.
It blamed the government for creating unnecessary tension among doctors and interfering in health institutions instead of showing desire to resolve the issue and called the government´s attitude barbaric. It has also called Sunday´s act of padlocking the hospital by locals an act of inciting the doctors.
Services at the hospital have been affected since March 15 after it decided to stop admitting patients owing to the strike of doctors, students and teachers against the alleged rigging of entrance exams for postgradute studies in medicine by the dean of the institute. Emergency services have also been halted since Tuesday.
