The conference discussed prospects and challenges of energy, climate change and water resources. It was part of the 63rd executive meeting of SAARC CCI.The event which was organized with the theme of 'Cleaner and Greener South Asia: Managing Climate Change, Energy and Water Resources', highlighted the need for uninterrupted power supply at affordable price for economic and industrial growth among SAARC member nations.
An 11-member delegation from Nepal participated in the conference. Suraj Vaidya, acting president of SAARC CCI, said that the conference and executive meeting focused on the role of private sector and government to promote energy and water resources among SAARC nations and tackle the issue of climate change. "Besides, the meeting also discussed on ways to promote tourism in LDCs likes Nepal and make amendment to some provisions in SAARC CCI statute," added Vaidhya.
Similarly, Shobha Gyawali, member of SAARC Chamber Women Entrepreneurs Council, said that the meeting also discussed on ways to strengthen trade among SAARC nations and the role of women entrepreneurs to strengthen nation's economy.
The meeting also concluded that agreements on energy and energy projects at the SAARC level must aim to increase accessibility and affordability among the under-privileged, and have an impact on reducing inter-state tensions in South Asian region, in addition to fueling economic growth.
