Rana, who completed his two-year tenure in New Delhi, was earlier directed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) to return home by July 19.[break]
MoFA had sent a letter to this effect on June 19 giving Rana a month´s time to wrap up his Delhi stay. Foreign Minister Upendra Yadav had accused Rana of "not cooperating" with the government and working under the direction of a political party.
Rana was appointed Nepal´s envoy to India in October 2009 by then Madhav Kumar Nepal government on the recommendation of the Nepali Congress. Minister Yadav had publicly announced to recall Rana after he did not accompany Indian External Affairs Minister SM Krishna during his Nepal visit in April.
Yadav had also claimed that Rana did not make necessary arrangements for Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal´s visit to India, which is still pending. Prime Minister Khanal had expressed his desire to visit India with Krishna during the latter´s visit to Nepal. No formal acceptance or invitation has been extended to Khanal by the Indian side so far.
