Quake damages 3 buildings in Kaski

POKHARA, May 9: A mild tremor jolted western parts of the country on Saturday, leaving at least three buildings partially damaged in Kaski district.



The 5.1 magnitude earthquake with its epicenter in Thumakodanda of Kaski district caused cracks on the walls of Area Police Office building in Hansapur. Similarly, two more houses were partially damaged in Lekhnath municipality-10. According to the police, rear portions of the houses owned by Radha Krishna Subedi and his son Shiva Raj collapsed due to the quake. [break]



"No human casualty has been reported so far," said DSP Shyam Krishna Adhikari. According to National Seismological Center, the quake hit western parts of the country at around 1:39 pm on Saturday. Punya Prasad Sapkota, a local of Thumakodanda, said an aftershock was felt two minutes after the quake that lasted for only 10 seconds.



Ripples were felt in nearby districts like Tanahun, Gorkha and Lamjung districts. The epicenter of the quake is about 30 km east of Pokhara. The quake was accompanied by storm and heavy rainfall.
