A company in the district has been exporting herbal soap, manufactured through household ingredients and other local raw materials, to Japan since a couple of years.
Director of the Herbal Soap Industry of Pyuthan, Durga KC informed her herbal soap contains raw materials such as Neem, Aloe vera, herbal oil besides caustic soda.[break]
“Herbal soap is manufactured from consumer´s health point of view. Its regular use eradicates dandruff, makes hair shiny, removes wrinkles and spots,” KC said.
She added that national as well as international experts have been frequently visiting the industry in order to study the production and to explore its markets.
Expressing her happiness on being able to establish a local product in the international market, KC said “As I learned from different media that my product has acquired a good market in Japan, I have tried harder to make the product more qualitative and healthy.”
In Nepal, her herbal soap is also supplied to Chitwan, Narayanghat and Kathmandu.
Though the company manufactures different sizes of soap, those exported to Japan has a length of 11 inch long, breadth of 3.5 and width of 1.5 inch, KC added.
According to KC, the manufacturing cost of soap is Rs 22; and it is wholesaled at Rs 25.
“There was a time when locals denied me to lend loan saying the product couldn´t compete with the imported soap. However, with the increased demand of soap, the perception has changed” KC added.
