The second round of talks held on Friday between the government and agitating transport entrepreneurs had failed to yield positive results as both sides remained adamant on their positions.
The talks had foundered yesterday after the government rejected the transport entrepreneurs´ demand for scrapping the powers that have been delegated to the Metropolitan Traffic Police.
National Federation of Nepal Transport Entrepreneurs along with All Nepal Transport Workers Association, Nepal Yatayat Workers Association and Nepal Yatayat Independent Workers´ Association enforced the indefinite strike from Friday, accusing the government of failing to address the problems of transport entrepreneurs.
Earlier, putting forth various demands, the transport entrepreneurs had warned of launching nationwide general strike if their demands were not addressed.
The other demands of transport entrepreneurs include formation of a separate transport ministry, recognition of the transport sector as an industry and annulment of the Metropolitan Traffic Police Division´s decision to reward 15 percent of revenues collected from motorists as fines to traffic police personnel.
On Thursday, a marathon talks held between two sides had ended inconclusively. However, a meeting between the transport entrepreneurs and the government is scheduled for 4 in the afternoon to resolve the matter.
