KATHMANDU, Dec 12: The documentary titled ‘Silent Sorrow’ depicting the pain and problems of young people living in slum areas in Kathmandu was screened on Wednesday at the Russian Center of Science and Culture (RCSC) in Kathmandu.

The documentary, produced by radio program Saathi Sanga Manka Kura of Equal Access Nepal, was screened with the objective of bringing together youths from different backgrounds, in order to mitigate the various stigma and discrimination that young people of the slums have to face. The screening saw 31 schools, activists, members of different youth organizations and media attending the event.[break]

An interaction program amongst the youth of the slums and non-slum area was also initiated by the organizers, where the young participants candidly posed questions regarding different issues where they could lend a helping hand.

“It is the duty of the youth of today to jointly pressurize the government bodies and other concerned organizations to work for the betterment of youths living in the slums,” stated one of the participant, while many nodded to his suggestion. Another participant added that it is our responsibility to bring about change and not just the government.

The documentary can also be found on YouTube and interested organizations and individuals can also contact Equal Access Nepal for a copy of the documentary for further screening.
