KATHMANDU, Aug 25: The Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) recognized by International Olympic Committee (IOC) has said that it is not ready hold mid-term election of its executive committee.

NOC President Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan, talking to Republica, the commitee has turned down Member Secretary Yubaraj Lama´s proposal to conduct NOC-election.[break]

"We are currently in NOC because we were elected by our member associations. The election was observed by IOC and the Asian Olympic Council," said Pradhan.

However, Pradhan said that his committee is ready to include five members from the Rukma Shamsher Rana-led NOC, which was reinstated by a Supreme Court on November 4, 2010.

"We are ready to hold talks with the Rana-led NOC to end the controversy," said Pradhan. "Everyone should understand that Olympic movement is not possible without Olympic rings," Pradhan added.

Pradhan demanded that the government should come up with concrete steps to solve the controversy involving the two NOCs.

"The Supreme Court´s verdict has altered only a Minister-level decision. The government is yet to take a final decision," claimed Pradhan.

However, Pradhan criticized NSC Member Secretary Lama. "We do not understand his intentions. He pretends to coordinate with our committee and the very next day decides to recognize another committee," said Pradhan. "He needs to understand that neither of the commitees need his recognition," Pradhan added.

Pradhan also asked Lama to come up with a clear vision. "Earlier, we had solved the controversy over Nepal Swimming Association and if he wants other issues can be solved as well," said Pradhan.

Pradhan said that his committee would recommend the government to scrap contradictory provisions of the existing Sports Development Act and the IOC Charter.

"Our Sports Act contradicts IOC Charter. The existing right of NSC to dissolve national associations and the provision of taking recommendation of District Sports Development Committee for representation in the general assembly of any association contradict with the IOC Charter," claimed Pradhan. "We will suggest the government to end such contradictions. All these contradictions encourage NSC leadership to interfere in national associations and finally in NOC," he added.

Pradhan said his committee has been supporting the government rather than challenging it. "We don´t want the government to surrender at the international level. We want to avoid the situation," said Pradhan.

Two different NOCs -- one led by Pradhan and other by Rana -- have been claiming legitimacy though the Supreme Court verdict gave recognition to the Rana-led committee.

On the other hand, IOC has been reiterating that it recognizes the Pradhan-led committee only.
