KATHMANDU, March 28: Police is currently making a last-ditch attempt to arrest CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli, urging him to surrender peacefully as security presence intensified at his residence.

A joint team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office and the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has been stationed at Oli’s residence since last night. Additional personnel from Bhaktapur Police Range and other units have also been mobilised, arriving in uniform to reinforce the operation.

Officials said the police have formally requested Oli to cooperate with the arrest process. Police have urged him to present himself and assist in a peaceful arrest.

The team has reached the site carrying documents of cabinet decision authorising the arrest.

The move follows the government’s decision to implement the findings of a probe commission led by former judge Gauri Bahadur Karki, which held Oli primarily responsible for the Gen Z protests that took place on September 8 and 9 during his tenure as prime minister.

The protests, which resulted in 76 deaths, were described by the commission as a grave failure of leadership and accountability. Acting on the report, authorities have moved to detain Oli, marking a dramatic escalation in the case.
