Police exchange fire with smugglers

BIRGANJ, Aug 27: A team of Armed Police patrol exchanged fire with smugglers at Mirjapur VDC of Parsa district and seized over a hundred kilos of cannabis being transported toward India.



“The incident took place at around 2:40 a.m. near Arariya river of Mirjapur when police patrol intercepted a group of about 50 smugglers heading toward India from Dhobini carrying the contraband," said Manohar Bhatta, Inspector at Parsa district Police Office. [break]"Police opened fire in self defence after the groups fired on the team."



After several rounds of fire from both sides, the smugglers fled the scene leaving behind the cannabis. No one was injured in the incident.
