PM Bhattarai asked the security authorities to immediately initiate action against the perpetrators while addressing the meeting of the VAW cell at his official residence, Baluwatar, on Sunday. [break]
"It is disgusting that a woman returning home from foreign job was raped by government employees. Security bodies need to take action rather than strive for reconciliation," he said, adding that police investigation in the recent days has failed to take punitive measures on the perpetrators in the level it should have been done.
According to a participant at the meeting, Spokesperson at the National Women´s Commission, Mohana Ansari said the PM warned of action against the security authorities if they failed to punish the real perpetrators.
On the occasion, Inspector General of Police Kuber Singh Rana was directed to re-examine the death of Saraswati Adhikari (Subedi), who died in mysteriously circumstances at Anamnagar in the capital city.
Meanwhile, the PM met with relatives of Subedi and assured them of stringent action against the perpetrators.
The security bodies were also directed to intensify the search of Chhori Maiya who has gone missing for long.
In the meeting, the PM called for concrete suggestion from the rights defenders to control VAW.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Lila Mani Poudel, the Secretary at the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare, officials of the NWC, security chiefs, women rights defenders and others.
