KATHMANDU, Nov 25: President Ram Baran Yadav assured Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai that he would not take any unconstitutional move to push the country into political crisis.
The PM who reached to the president’s residence, Shital Niwas on Sunday evening to convey the cabinet decision, sought the president’s cooperation to end political conflict in the country.[break] As there are just two constitutional institutions at present, we should work together to institutionalize the republic in the country, Prashant Lamichhane, PM´s aide quoted the PM as saying.
Govt to send prez an objection letter
The government has decided to write a letter to the president, objecting to the state head having specified a weeklong deadline to political parties for the formation of a national consensus government.[break]
Government spokesperson Raj Kishor Yadav after a cabinet meeting Sunday afternoon said the meeting concluded that the president´s move is at odds with spirits of the interim constitution and that executive powers still remains with the council of ministers. [break]
On Friday, the president, invoking the Article 38 (1) of the interim constitution, had called upon the political parties, setting a deadline of November 29 to forward the name of the new prime minister to lead consensus government.
