PM concedes delay in nabbing Basnet

POKHARA, July 9: Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal has conceded that there has been delay in arresting Parshuram Basnet, the mastermind of attack on our correspondent Khilanath Dhakal.



He reiterated his commitment that Basnet would be nabbed, sooner or later. Inaugurating the Fourth General Convention of the Broadcasting Association of Nepal in Pokhara, PM Khanal said, "It is true that there has been delay in arresting the accused but he will definitely be held." [break]



He, however, did not elaborate on what caused the delay in Basnet´s arrest.



"The government will bring the attackers of journalists to book and take action against anybody involved in such attacks," Khanal added.



The prime minister also said that there has been a rise in the attacks on journalists by various criminal groups in the recent past and expressed commitment that the government would not spare anyone involved whatever their affiliations.



Minister for Information and Communications Agni Sapkota also claimed that the government was committed to taking action against those involved in attacking journalists.
