PM calls emergency cabinet meet

KATHMANDU, Nov 25: Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai on Sunday has called an emergency cabinet meeting.



The meeting has been scheduled at noon in Singh Durbar, Bishwadeep Pandey, the PM’s personal aide, informed.



The PM called the cabinet meeting on the wake of President Dr Ram Baran Yadav’s move to call on the political parties to nominate a prime ministerial candidate through consensus within a week for national consensus government.



The ruling alliance has also accused President Yadav of taking an unconstitutional move and decided to urge him to withdraw the call.



The move has also spawned a sharp rift within the ruling UCPN (Maoist), with party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and those loyal to him standing in favor of deferring protests against the president’s move in view of its ‘broader spirit of ending the political deadlock’.
