The prime minister telephoned the Indian president on Monday morning. According to a press note posted in the prime minister´s website, the prime minister wished Mukherjee successful term in office and expressed confidence that the relations between Nepal and India would be further strengthened during Mukherjee´s presidency.[break]
On the occasion, Mukherjee had said that he was a good friend of Nepal and Nepali people and bilateral relations would be further strengthened during his term.
Likewise, Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala in a message extended his congratulations to Mukherjee. Koirala has lauded Mukherjee´s commitment to the cause of democracy and economic development of Nepal.
"I am fully confident that the warm and cordial relationship existing between Nepal and India will reach new high in the coming days under your wise guidance," he said in the message.
Likewise, CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal has also congratulated Mukherjee on his election. In a message to Mukherjee, Khanal said his party is thankful for the cooperation and support that India has provided to Nepal and hoped that supports would continue in the coming days.
