Speaking at an interaction organized by Reporters´ Club Nepal at the home ministry, Gachchhadar, however, noted that a consensus government was a must to conclude both peace and constitution drafting process. [break]
“The formation of a national consensus government under the current prime minister is the best option. But if that is not possible, the parties should agree on a new prime ministerial candidate before,” he added.
“The United Democratic Madhesi Front will play a decisive role in picking up a new prime ministerial candidate,” said Gachchhadar, who is also the coordinator of UDMF.

Gachchhadar, however, said that UML should not stake claim to government leadership. “I do not think UML still has moral grounds to claim leadership of the new government. It would be generous of the other parties if they allowed the Madhesi parties to lead the government. We do not stake claim to government leadership, though,” he said.
Gachchhadar argued that NC could stake claim to leading the consensus government as the party has not led the government even once since the Constituent Assembly polls. “Maoist Chairman Prachanda could also be an appropriate candidate for the prime ministerial post,” he said.
Gachchhadar also expressed confidence that both the peace and constitution drafting process would be concluded within the stipulated time as parties are making utmost efforts to reach consensus on various contentious issues.
“I have asked the chief of Nepal Army to submit an official proposal on army integration as per the directive of the Special Committee to Defense Ministry,” said Gachchhadar, who also holds the defense portfolio.
