KATHMANDU, Jan 26: The big three parties -- UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML -- will hold a meeting at Gokarna Resort on Wednesday to give a last try for a consensus-based government as the separate bilateral meetings among the parties held on Tuesday failed to yield any result.

The deadline set by President Dr Ram Baran Yadav for a consensus government expires Wednesday. [break]

The meeting between the NC and the UML held at Singha Durbar on Tuesday afternoon decided not to accept a Maoist-led government until the conflicting parties agree on the modality of integration and rehabilitation of the Maoist combatants and finish the task of categorizing the combatants into those opting for integration or for rehabilation or otherwise.

Later in the day, the two-hour meeting between the NC and the UCPN (Maoist), held at Hotel Baishali, also ended inconclusively as both the parties staked claim over government leadership.

The NC reiterated its claim that the party should lead the government until signs of the peace process reaching conclusion appear, while the Maoists argued that the peace process and constitution drafting would be concluded if they were allowed to lead a consensus-based government.
