Paras Khadka led team wins Super League

KATHMANDU, Oct 15: National team skipper Paras Khadka-led Nepal Red on Thursday became champion of the Super League cricket event beating Nepal Grey, led by Shakti Gauchan, by six wickets at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground, Kirtipur.

Nepal Red became champion on the basis of better net run rate than runner-up Nepal Orange, led by Sharad Veswakar, despite having equal six points from four matches. Nepal Red and Nepal Orange both won three matches out of four.In another match on Thursday at Pulchowk Engineering Ground, Nepal Orange faced 75 runs defeat at the hands of Nepal Blue, led by national team vice-captain Gyanendra Malla.

Paras-led Nepal Red chased 69 runs target in 18.5 overs losing four wickets to beat Nepal Grey and become champion after man-of-the-match Anil Kumar Mandal scored 29 runs off 26 balls that included six fours. Anil shared 33 runs with Roshan Nepal (15 runs off 36 balls).

Irshad Ahmed bagged three wickets and skipper Shakti claimed a wicket for Nepal Grey, which put 68/10 in 38.2 overs as Shakti remained not out on 32 runs off 72 balls, hitting five fours. Opener Hari Shankar Sah added 11 off 42.

Sagar Pun claimed three wickets, while Rupesh Shrivastav and Kumar Thapa claimed two wickets each for Nepal Red.

Meanwhile, in a reduced match of 20-over due to wet outfield, Nepal Blue, after posting 144 runs target, restricted Nepal Orange to 68/5 in allotted overs as Sompal Kami bagged three wickets and Sanjam Regmi claimed two wickets.

Suraj Kurmi remained not out on 26 runs off 58 balls and Manjeet Shrestha added 21 runs facing 25 balls.

Earlier, player-of-the-match Naresh Budhayer hit 54 runs off 58 balls to help Nepal Blue post 143/6.

Naresh, who hit two six and six boundaries, shared 57 runs with Bhupendra Thapa (27 off 26) for the first wicket and 42 runs with Binod Bhandari (26 off 20) for the second wicket.

Avinash Karn, Ramnaresh Giri, Manjeet Shrestha and Samsad Ansari picked up two wickets each for Nepal Orange.
