Addressing an enthusiastic audience, Amrit Gurung of the Nepathya band, said that Paleti was an initiative to establish old Nepali music as a cultural heritage and part of upbringing.[break]
The crowd comprised reputed Nepali personalities like Rashtra Kavi Madhav Prasad Ghimire and CNN Hero of the Year 2010 Anuradha Koirala.
The music fete started with an instrumental rendition of Nepal’s national anthem, a composition by Gurung himself.
“I may not be able to sing many songs but the presence of you all here today has become a fuel for me,” said Gurung.
Backed by a 13-man musical support and nepa~laya’s in-house singers Suraj and Meena, Gurung sang his own compositions, such as ‘Ma ambar hoon timi dharti,’ ‘Samhalera rakha,’ ‘Pokhiera ghamko jhulka’ and ‘Pohar saal khushi.’
Gurung also went along sharing his creative experiences with various celebrated Nepali music legends, such as Narayan Gopal and Ratna Sumsher Thapa.
“I met Narayan Gopal in Darjeeling. With time, our relationship deepened. But in the course of our friendship, we also had some misunderstanding. It was Madhav Prasad Ghimire who reconciled us,” shared Gurung.
Paleti Utsab with Amber Gurung ended with the maestro’s first recorded composition –‘Nau lakhe tara.’
Bidding the audience farewell, Gurung said, “I shall sing more songs the next time. I know we’ll meet again somehow, somewhere.”
Paleti Utsab is also set to feature Phatteman Rajbhandari, Shanti Thatal, and Aavaas.
