Of the total 124,189 students registered at the Sunsari DEO, only a total of 102,331 students are genuine, says the report. As per the report, a total of 21, 858 are fake students.[break]
The report is based on a one-day headcount of all students across the district. The DEO had counted all students across the district following complaints that community schools have been registering fake students´ to devour government funds.
It is not only the public schools that have sent the names of fake students to the DEO but also religious schools, like Madrasas and Gumbas, have been misusing government grants by inflating the number of students.
Madrasas have registered 17,604 students´ names at the DEO. But, the headcount had found that only 12,368 students study in Madrasas. Similarly, 614 students in Gurukul and 36 students in Gumba were found fake.
“Once we have the final report, we will take action against all those schools that have inflated the number of students to misuse government grants,” said Gopal Dahal, one of school inspectors at the DEO.
