Over 150 refugee huts destroyed by fire in Beldangi

BHADRAPUR, Jan 21: Goods and property worth millions of rupees have been destroyed when fire broke out at the Bhutanese refugee camp at Beldangi, Damak-3 in Jhapa district Wednesday night.



The Area Police Office, Damak said the fire started from the foundry at the house of Lal Bahadur Lamgare at Sector ´A´ of the refugee camp. The fire destroyed 150 huts in the sector.



The fire that broke out at 9:40 p.m. on Wednesday was brought under control only at 12:30 p.m. through the joint efforts of personnel of Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force and the locals.



Fire engines from Bhadrapur, Itahari, Dharan and Biratnagar were used to douse the fire. Police said details on the full extent of the damage caused by the fire are awaited.
