"We received a huge crowd on Saturday because of public holiday. This is overwhelming," said Amrit Pant, general secretary of the Computer Association of Nepal (CAN). Most of the visitors of Saturday were students, youngsters and office goers, according to Pant.[break]
The organizers are expecting a turnout of around 450,000 visitors throughout the expo.
"People are being drawn into visiting the expo because of special offers announced by various companies. In addition, huge discounts that are being offered by companies have also generated interest," said Pant.
A micro laptop with seven-inch screen from Baleyo introduced by Sagar Distribution has been attracting lots of visitors at the expo. The micro laptop has VIA VT 8500 processor, 128 MB RAM, 2 GB memory expandable to 4 GB and Wi-Fi, among others. The device costs Rs 6,500 and comes with one-year warranty.
A phablet named iBuddy Connect introduced by Zeal Enterprises is another crowd puller at the expo.
According to Sandesh Gopal Nyachhyon, the company´s managing director, the phablet has seven-inch capacitive touch screen with a resolution of 800X 480 pixels, 1 Ghz CPU with Cortex A8 core, 512 MB RAM, 4 GB internal memory, rear camera of 2 mega pixels and front camera of 0.3 mega pixel, among others.
"We are providing the phablet at a special price of Rs 13,500 at the expo, which is Rs 2,500 less than the current market price," said Nyachhon.
The company which launched the phablet on Friday received bookings for 40 units till Saturday.
Another special attraction at the CAN ICT expo is the Midas eClass, an e-learning tool, introduced by the title sponsor of the event, Midas Technologies. "Around 25 percent of the people visiting the expo has stopped at our stall and asked us about the interactive teaching tool," said Chattra Hari Karki, the company´s managing director.
According to Karki, teachers, parents and managers are attracted toward the product.
The stall of Neoteric Nepal has also drawn quite a huge crowd as it is offering free tablet to one lucky customer from among those who fill up the form at its stall.
A special power back-up system called Power Box introduced by Synchro International is another crowd puller at the expo. The Power Box is a portable charger with a rechargeable battery of 4,800 mAh and 8,800 mAh, which allows users to charge laptops and mobiles during load shedding.
According to a company official, the device is generating curiosity as it is very useful in a country where power cuts are frequent.
CAN announces Sunday as business day
The Computer Association of Nepal (CAN) has announced Sunday--the fifth day of the Midas CAN Info-Tech--as the ´business day´. On this day, business dealers and vendors will be entertained. "We will be selling tickets worth Rs 100 only on Sunday and no student discounts will be provided," said CAN General Secretary Amrit Pant.
