On Friday, President Dr Ram Baran Yadav, invoking the Article 38 (1) of the interim constitution, called upon the political parties to recommend the name of the new prime minister to lead consensus government.
In a joint statement, the leaders have termed the president’s move as positive, constitutional and commendable, saying the move has inspired the parties to end the existing crisis by forming a consensus government.
They have described criticism by the ruling parties of the president’s decree as the ruling coalition’s intent of prolonging their stay in power and asked them to take initiatives for political consensus.
The statement is signed by NC President Sushil Koirala, UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal, Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chairman Pashupati Shamsher Rana, CPN-ML General Secretary CP Mainali, among others.
