The arrested convict has been identified as Ramesh Yadav, a resident of Narsingh VDC-4 in Sunsari. Yadav, also known as Reban in his village, was arrested by the Bihar police. The Nepal Police is trying to bring Yadav back from Bihar.[break]
Earlier, Ali Asraf Ansari, the dreaded Bangladeshi criminal who masterminded the Jhumka jailbreak, was arrested by the Kolkata police early this week. The Nepal Police is trying to bring back Yadav, too.
According to DSP Laxman Giri of the District Police Office of Sunsari, Yadav was arrested when he was plotting a bank robbery in Bihar. Yadav, who was serving a jail term in Sunsari on the charge of murder and human trafficking, is believed to have links with criminal gangs in India, too.
DSP Giri said he had reached Bihar to bring back Yadav on Friday but failed to do so due to the lack of time.
DIG Keshav Adhikari, the spokesperson for the Nepal police, said another police team led by SSP will now be sent to Bihar to bring back Yadav.
Yadav and Ansari were among 12 inmates who broke out from the Jhumka jail on November 9 by digging a 12-feet tunnel under the cover of running a furniture factory inside the prison house.
Police sources say that it will be easy to bring back Yadav than Ansari. As for Ansari, police finds it difficult as he faces several serious criminal charges in India and Bangladesh. The Interpol has also issued a red corner notice against him.
A probe committee led by police SSP Ramesh Phuyal has recommended 10-year jail term for assistant sub inspector Jit Bahadur KC, six-year jail terms for 17 other policemen, including inspector Ishwor Basnet, and departmental actions against 21 police personnel for aiding and abetting the inmates.
