Occidental School creates environmental awareness

KATHMANDU, June 6: Occidental Public School of Kathmandu celebrated World Environment Day 2012 by planting trees in the school premises and holding a rally on June 5.



Students and teachers of the institution collected wastepaper and plastic in the school premises at Anam Nagar while they rallied to spread awareness about the environment. [break]



The rally, which started from the school, circled Anam Nagar. The participants with different placards and awareness chants spread messages of green environment to the public.



Plastics, papers, and other garbage materials were picked and separated for decomposition and recycling. Boys and girls swept the roads and the sidewalks. Donation boxes were also carried to raise funds for the preservation of the ecosystem at the event.



Other activities, such as tree plantation, were also organized to help manage the greenery of the environment.



“Our goal is to spread this idea of ours throughout the entire community,” the coordinator of the eco club, Nishchal Pyakurel, said. The teachers too actively participated in planting trees along with helping the students.
