“We have started testing the quality of service in the capital,” Rajendra Nakarmi, a senior official of NT, told myrepublica.com. “If things go according to plan we will launch the service within the next two months.” [break]
NT is currently using PDSN (Packet Date Serving Node) technology to provide its wireless CDMA internet service. More than 10,000 people have subscribed to this service which can be accessed using USB modems. The service offers a maximum data transfer speed of 153.6Kbps and costs Rs 0.25 for 100kbps of data transfer.
“The cost of the new service will be a little higher. But we have not yet fixed the rate,” Nakarmi said.
He, however, said customers can use the same USB modems that they are currently using to access the new service. “Devices such as PCMCIA card can also be used,” he informed. “But we have not decided whether to allow customers to use both the devices to access the service."
